Study in Canada

Canada is a very warm and friendly place. It is one of the world’s leading study destinations. The country spends more on education than those in the G8. More than 250,000 international students have been hosted by Canada and more recently there has been an influx of overseas students. Depending on the course undergraduate degrees can take up to three or four years to complete and for postgraduate degrees this is one to three years. There are many reasons to study in Canada, some are:

  • It is affordable to study in Canada.
  • Qualifications from studying in Canada are respected around the world.
  • The Canadian government offers many immigration programmes after your study period in Canada.

Cost of living in Canada is much more affordable than that of the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand. In a welcoming and friendly environment you can receive a high quality education.

Tuition fee in approx. (CAD$ 5000 yearly).

Career colleges are ideal for students seeking short term training in film, media graphic design and the like. There is an emphasis on practical skills in these institutions. In university colleges students are offered a wide range of programme choices which can be both academically oriented or practically oriented.

In any programme there will be strong student support services and this is something that Canadian college systems have been recognised for.

Unlike the USA, UK and Australia there are a limited number of Canadian scholarship up for grabs.

If you are an international student studying on a course for 2 years or more, after graduation you are eligible for a three-year work permit with no restrictions. Valuable experience can be gained in this period and gives you the opportunity to work in an international setting. If you study for one year, you are eligible for a one-year work permit.

Each university in Canada has its own entrance requirements and assesses everyone on an induvial basis. The minimum requirement for entering undergraduate study is graduating from secondary school and having a good academic standing.

International students must display proficiency in either English or French and this depends on the university you are applying to. Most universities require that you attain a minimum score in a standardised language test. There are several Canadian programmes you can enrol in if your language skills are insufficient. At the start of the visa application process, you choose the university and course and meet your education councillor.

  • You plan to study at a college or university that is publicly funded or private institution or a independent fee-paying school.
  • You have to be able to follow a full-time degree course.
  • You must be able to pay for your course and the living expense of your family if they are there with you.
  • You must not intend to work in the UK and leave at the end of your studies.
  • A letter from your institution saying that you have been accepted on the course.
  • Evidence you can pay for course fees.
  • Must be able to convince the ECO when you have an interview with them that your study plans are genuine.
